Is IOP in Lewisville, TX the Right Next Step?

If weekly therapy is not enough right now, but you do not need a hospital stay, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) may be the next step. At our Lewisville clinic, 401 N Valley Pkwy, IOP gives you 9 to 20 hours of structured clinical care each week, for clients ages 9 and up.

Signs weekly therapy may not be enough

IOP is the right level of care when symptoms significantly impact your life but do not require hospitalization. People often look at it when weekly sessions are no longer keeping up, or when they are leaving inpatient care and want a structured step down. It also suits parents, students and working adults who cannot take weeks off.

What the week looks like

IOP brings several kinds of care together in one program:

  • Individual therapy with a consistent licensed therapist.
  • Group therapy with peers working through similar challenges.
  • Skills training using CBT and DBT, with practical tools for managing anxiety, regulating emotions and communication.
  • Psychiatric evaluation and medication management.

Morning and afternoon times mean most Lewisville residents can keep working, attending school and managing family responsibilities while they are in the program.

IOP or PHP

Our Lewisville clinic also runs a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). PHP is 6 to 8 hours of daily clinical support, five to six days a week, with individual therapy, several group sessions and psychiatric care each day, and you still go home in the evenings.

PHP is meant for times when symptoms need daily intensive treatment, when someone is stepping down from an inpatient stay, or when IOP has not been enough. If you are working, in school or caring for family and your symptoms do not need daily treatment, IOP is usually where the conversation starts.

Who the program serves

We see clients from age 9 through adulthood, and each age group has its own programming. Children ages 9 to 12 receive pediatric-adapted care. Adolescents ages 12 to 17 are in teen programs, separate from adult groups. Adults 18 and older are in our adult IOP and PHP.

Families are part of it

Family therapy is a core part of our programs. Sessions can include parents, partners or key family members, and the work focuses on improving communication, reducing conflict and building support at home.

How we start

  1. A conversation. We listen to your full story, not only symptoms: your background, your family and what you have been through.
  2. A plan that fits. We build it around your clinical needs, your family structure and your language preferences.
  3. Treatment. Therapy begins, and family sessions work within your family's actual dynamics.
  4. Long-term stability. We prepare you for life after the program with connections to community resources and ongoing support.

When you call, our client care advocates help find the right program, assist with insurance questions and schedule your evaluation.

Who decides

Only a clinician can recommend a level of care for you or your child. If you are unsure whether IOP or PHP fits, the evaluation is the place to start, and you do not need to have the answer before you call.
