What are IOP and PHP, and How Can They Help You?

When Your Anxiety or Depression is Severe

You might be dealing with:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Constant worry about everything. Can't turn it off. Affects sleep, work, relationships.
  • Panic Disorder: Sudden panic attacks. Physical symptoms. Fear of the next attack. You're avoiding places, people, situations.
  • Social Anxiety: Everyday social situations feel terrifying. You're isolated. Missing life because of fear.
  • OCD: Intrusive thoughts. Compulsions that consume hours. You know they don't make sense but you can't stop.
  • Major Depressive Disorder: More than sadness. Hopelessness. Loss of interest in things you love. Maybe suicidal thoughts. Can't get out of bed or function.
  • Complex Trauma / PTSD: Flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbness. Regular therapy isn't touching it.

Why Weekly Therapy Isn't Enough (And What Actually Works)

Weekly therapy is great for maintenance or mild-to-moderate anxiety/depression. But clinical-level anxiety and depression need:

  • Intensive exposure & response prevention – You face your fears in a structured, supported way multiple times per week. That's how you rewire your brain.
  • Close psychiatric oversight – We monitor medication, adjust doses, evaluate whether you need additional medication support.
  • Daily skills practice – CBT, DBT, mindfulness, emotion regulation. Not just talked about once a week. Applied daily.
  • Group processing – Other people struggling with anxiety/depression. Realizing you're not alone. Seeing recovery happen. That's powerful.
  • Accountability – Trying things. Not doing them? We address it. Why? Let's problem-solve. That progress happens faster than monthly therapy can offer.

IOP for Anxiety & Depression: What's Included

  • Individual CBT/DBT Therapy – Your therapist, your issues, proven techniques
  • Anxiety-Focused Group – Exposures, learning from others, peer support, accountability
  • Psychiatric Evaluation & Medication Management – Is medication right? Which one? Adjusted doses? Close oversight.
  • Skills Workshops – Emotion regulation, distress tolerance, thought challenging, mindfulness, sleep, physical health
  • Optional Family Therapy – How anxiety/depression affects relationships. How your loved ones can support you without enabling.

Mind Above Matter's Approach to Anxiety & Depression

Intensive Outpatient Group Therapy Near Texas

Evidence-Based Therapy

CBT is gold-standard for anxiety. DBT works for emotion regulation and depression. We use what's proven.

Exposure Therapy (Done Right)

Not throwing you in the deep end. Gradual, supported, repeated. This is how phobias and OCD actually resolve.

Psychiatry Integrated

Therapy + medication working together. We're not therapy-only or med-only. Both. Coordinated.

Flexible Scheduling

Day or evening tracks. You keep working. You keep your life. But you get serious clinical treatment.

What Intensive Treatment Actually Gives You

Your Brain Rewires

Anxiety is learned. Through repeated, supported exposures, you un-learn it. New neural pathways form. Fear responses decrease.

Medication Actually Works

Close psychiatric monitoring means your meds are optimized. Not guessing. Not waiting 3 months for an adjustment. Real oversight.

You Get Your Life Back

Anxiety stops ruling your day. Depression lifts enough to function. You start doing things again. Work goes better. Relationships improve.

You Have Tools Forever

CBT, DBT, mindfulness, grounding. Not just talked about. Practiced daily. You leave with skills you actually use.

I don't think I will ever be able to adequately articulate what Mind Above Matter (Burleson - Virtual) did for me in a time where I needed something so desperately. At the time, I didn't know what I needed, or how anything could help, but thank the Lord I was directed to MAB. The program literally saved my life and set me back up for success. I 100% feel like I've been able to take back my life with the help from the therapists, psychiatrist, and program that I was apart of in my time at MAB. If you are thinking about starting this program, or referring someone you love to this program, don't hesitate - do it. I promise, you will not regret it.

We had the absolute best experience working with Ally. She was my child’s therapist and made such a positive impact on her life, not just in her progress, but in her confidence and overall happiness. From the very beginning, Ally made our entire family feel included in the process. She took the time to explain everything clearly, welcomed our questions, and always made us feel heard.
Her kindness, patience, and genuine care for her clients truly set her apart. It’s clear she’s passionate about what she does and deeply invested in helping each child succeed. We are so grateful for her support and would recommend her to anyone looking for a compassionate and skilled therapist.

Graduating from the PHP and IOP program at Mind Over Matter has been a life-changing experience for me. From the very beginning, I felt truly supported and cared for. The therapists here are absolutely incredible — compassionate, skilled, and genuinely invested in helping you grow and heal.

Each session felt meaningful and safe, and the team created an environment where I could open up, work through challenges, and actually see progress. What stood out the most was how much the therapists went above and beyond — they didn’t just “do their job,” they made me feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that’s rare to find.

If you’re looking for a program that provides structure, encouragement, and outstanding therapists who truly care, I can’t recommend Mind Over Matter enough. This place gave me the tools and confidence I needed to move forward, and I’ll always be grateful for my time here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between IOP and PHP for anxiety/depression?
IOP is for people who can work/function most of the day but need intensive support. PHP is for people in acute crisis, suicidal ideation, or unable to function at all. Most anxiety/depression goes through IOP. Severe cases might need PHP first.
Do I have to take medication?
No. We recommend psychiatric evaluation for everyone. But the decision is yours. Many people do well with therapy alone. Some need meds. We'll be clear about what we think will help.
How long until I feel better?
Most people report noticeable improvement by week 2–3. Real, significant change by week 4–6. Some people need 8–12 weeks. It depends on severity and how much you engage.
What if I'm still not better after IOP?
We reassess. Maybe a different medication. Maybe a longer IOP. Maybe step up to PHP for a few weeks. Maybe there's a co-occurring issue (like trauma or substance use) we need to address. We adjust.
Can I do IOP while working full-time?
Most people can with evening/hybrid tracks. Some take a medical leave for 4–8 weeks. It depends on your job flexibility. We'll help you figure it out.
Will I need ongoing therapy after IOP?
Usually yes. We transition you to weekly outpatient therapy to maintain progress. Some people do monthly. Some do as-needed. We build a maintenance plan before you finish IOP.
