What are IOP and PHP, and How Can They Help You?

Your Teen Might Need More Than Weekly Therapy If:

  • They're self-harming, having suicidal thoughts, or talking about not wanting to be alive
  • Anxiety or depression is keeping them from school, friendships, or family time
  • They're using alcohol or drugs to cope
  • Panic attacks, aggressive outbursts, or emotional meltdowns are daily
  • You've tried individual therapy for months and nothing is changing
  • They just got out of the hospital and need step-down care
  • School refusal or school phobia is consuming everyone's time

What We Do Differently for Teens

  • Evening Groups & Classes – They can go to school and still get treatment. Most teens attend 3–4 days/week, late afternoon into evening.
  • School Coordination – We work with your teen's school. We help them stay on track academically so treatment doesn't derail their education.
  • Family Therapy – Because their mental health exists in the context of family. We help you support them without enabling or controlling.
  • Peer Connection – Groups with other teens their age who get it. That's powerful. Beats adult group therapy every time for adolescents.
  • Specialized Teen Track – Not watered-down adult program. Real adolescent clinical work. Depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, LGBTQ+ issues, identity.

Common Issues We Treat

  • Depression & Anxiety – More than just sadness or worry. We teach them skills to manage mood and fear.
  • Self-Harm & Suicidal Thoughts – We give them real alternatives. DBT skills. Coping. Hope.
  • Substance Use – Vaping, alcohol, marijuana. We don't shame. We address what they're medicating and give them tools.
  • School Refusal – Social anxiety, trauma, depression, perfectionism. We help them get back to school and feel okay about it.
  • Family Conflict – Your teen is angry at you. We help both of you understand why and how to repair it.
  • LGBTQ+ Issues – Gender dysphoria, coming out, rejection. We're affirming. We help them process identity and family dynamics.

What Changes When Your Teen Gets Treatment

They Stop Suffering in Silence

A good group means they realize other teens are struggling too. Loneliness goes away. Connection happens. That's healing.

You Stop Blaming Yourself

Family therapy helps you understand this isn't your fault. Your teen's mental health isn't about your parenting. You learn how to support them without blame.

They Actually Get Skills

Not just talking. CBT, DBT, mindfulness, emotion regulation, communication. Tools they use in group, then take home and use with you.

School Normalizes

School refusal ends. Anxiety in class decreases. Grades improve. They start showing up again.

I don't think I will ever be able to adequately articulate what Mind Above Matter (Burleson - Virtual) did for me in a time where I needed something so desperately. At the time, I didn't know what I needed, or how anything could help, but thank the Lord I was directed to MAB. The program literally saved my life and set me back up for success. I 100% feel like I've been able to take back my life with the help from the therapists, psychiatrist, and program that I was apart of in my time at MAB. If you are thinking about starting this program, or referring someone you love to this program, don't hesitate - do it. I promise, you will not regret it.

We had the absolute best experience working with Ally. She was my child’s therapist and made such a positive impact on her life, not just in her progress, but in her confidence and overall happiness. From the very beginning, Ally made our entire family feel included in the process. She took the time to explain everything clearly, welcomed our questions, and always made us feel heard.
Her kindness, patience, and genuine care for her clients truly set her apart. It’s clear she’s passionate about what she does and deeply invested in helping each child succeed. We are so grateful for her support and would recommend her to anyone looking for a compassionate and skilled therapist.

Graduating from the PHP and IOP program at Mind Over Matter has been a life-changing experience for me. From the very beginning, I felt truly supported and cared for. The therapists here are absolutely incredible — compassionate, skilled, and genuinely invested in helping you grow and heal.

Each session felt meaningful and safe, and the team created an environment where I could open up, work through challenges, and actually see progress. What stood out the most was how much the therapists went above and beyond — they didn’t just “do their job,” they made me feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that’s rare to find.

If you’re looking for a program that provides structure, encouragement, and outstanding therapists who truly care, I can’t recommend Mind Over Matter enough. This place gave me the tools and confidence I needed to move forward, and I’ll always be grateful for my time here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my teen be the only one with their problem in group?
No. Our adolescent groups have 8–12 teens with diverse issues—depression, anxiety, self-harm, substance use, family trauma. They realize they're not alone. That's the power of it.
Will insurance cover this?
Yes. We accept Medicaid and all major commercial insurance. Most teens are covered. We verify benefits for free.
How long does the program last?
Usually 4–12 weeks depending on their level of need. We reassess every 2 weeks. Some teens need longer. We make decisions based on their progress.
What if my teen refuses to go?
Resistance is normal. We meet them without judgment. Many teens feel heard in their first session and want to come back. If resistance persists, we adjust—different group, different schedule, different clinician. We figure it out.
Can we do virtual sessions?
Some individual and family therapy can be virtual. Groups work best in-person. Most of our program is in-person, but we're flexible if there's a legitimate reason.
What if my teen is actively suicidal?
PHP (Partial Hospitalization) is designed for crisis. 6–8 hours/day, intensive psychiatric care. If they need inpatient hospital, we'll help with that. But PHP often prevents hospitalization.
