What are IOP and PHP, and How Can They Help You?

IOP for Depression: Structured Treatment Around Your Life

Our depression-focused IOP provides 9-20 hours of clinical support per week — individual therapy, group therapy, skills training, and psychiatric care — built around your work and family schedule. Behavioral activation, CBT, and DBT skills address the specific mechanisms of depression: the withdrawal, the cognitive distortions, the emotional numbness, the disrupted sleep and appetite. Most clients continue working or attending school during IOP.

PHP for Severe Depression

When depression is severe enough to make daily functioning significantly impaired — getting out of bed is a struggle, work or school attendance is failing, relationships are collapsing — PHP provides 6-8 hours of daily intensive clinical support. PHP is the right level when weekly therapy and IOP have not been sufficient and inpatient hospitalization is not required.

Why Mind Above Matter for Depression Treatment

Depression-specific clinical expertise — CBT, behavioral activation, and DBT skills tailored to depression, not generic mental health support.

Integrated psychiatry — medication evaluation and management within the program, not a referral to someone else.

JCAHO Accredited — meeting the highest national standards for behavioral health.

Insurance accepted — major commercial plans and Texas Medicaid.

How We Treat Depression at Mind Above Matter

Intensive Outpatient Group Therapy Near Texas

Behavioral Activation & CBT

The evidence-based combination for depression — rebuilding meaningful activity and restructuring the thought patterns that maintain depressive cycles. Delivered by therapists who specialize in depression, not generalists.

Integrated Psychiatric Care

Medication evaluation and management within the program. Board-certified psychiatric providers assess, prescribe, and monitor — coordinated with your therapy team, not siloed separately.

Flexible Scheduling

Morning and afternoon IOP tracks so you continue working or managing family life during treatment. Depression often makes everything harder — we do not add logistical barriers on top of it.

Group Therapy With Peers Who Understand

Group therapy with others working through depression — not a combined group where depression sits alongside completely different conditions. Shared experience accelerates recovery.

What Sets Our Depression Program Apart

Depression-Specific Expertise

Our clinical approach targets the specific mechanisms of depression: behavioral withdrawal, cognitive distortions, neurovegetative symptoms. Not one-size-fits-all mental health support.

Medication and Therapy Together

Depression often responds best to the combination of therapy and medication. Both are available within our program, coordinated by your clinical team from day one.

Insurance and Medicaid Accepted

Most major commercial plans and Texas Medicaid accepted. Benefits verified on your first call so you know your coverage before committing to treatment.

Same-Week Starts Available

When depression is bad, waiting months for help makes it worse. We have same-week availability in most cases — call and we will move quickly.

Here's How It Works

01

Step 1: Call Us — We Listen First

Pick up the phone and tell us what's going on. We'll listen, ask a few questions, and help you figure out if we're the right fit — no pressure, no commitment required.
02

Step 2: We Determine the Right Level of Care

A licensed clinician reviews your situation and recommends IOP, PHP, or a step-down sequence. Insurance is verified on this same call in most cases.
03

Step 3: You Start Treatment

You show up and do the work. Therapy sessions, group work, psychiatric appointments — your team is consistent and your plan is built around your life.
04

Step 4: We Plan What Comes Next

Before you finish, we build an aftercare plan together — ongoing therapy, community resources, and a clear picture of what staying well looks like for you.

Support that empowers.

The MAM difference: how accessible care fosters hope and progress.

I don't think I will ever be able to adequately articulate what Mind Above Matter (Burleson - Virtual) did for me in a time where I needed something so desperately. At the time, I didn't know what I needed, or how anything could help, but thank the Lord I was directed to MAB. The program literally saved my life and set me back up for success. I 100% feel like I've been able to take back my life with the help from the therapists, psychiatrist, and program that I was apart of in my time at MAB. If you are thinking about starting this program, or referring someone you love to this program, don't hesitate - do it. I promise, you will not regret it.

We had the absolute best experience working with Ally. She was my child’s therapist and made such a positive impact on her life, not just in her progress, but in her confidence and overall happiness. From the very beginning, Ally made our entire family feel included in the process. She took the time to explain everything clearly, welcomed our questions, and always made us feel heard.
Her kindness, patience, and genuine care for her clients truly set her apart. It’s clear she’s passionate about what she does and deeply invested in helping each child succeed. We are so grateful for her support and would recommend her to anyone looking for a compassionate and skilled therapist.

Graduating from the PHP and IOP program at Mind Over Matter has been a life-changing experience for me. From the very beginning, I felt truly supported and cared for. The therapists here are absolutely incredible — compassionate, skilled, and genuinely invested in helping you grow and heal.

Each session felt meaningful and safe, and the team created an environment where I could open up, work through challenges, and actually see progress. What stood out the most was how much the therapists went above and beyond — they didn’t just “do their job,” they made me feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that’s rare to find.

If you’re looking for a program that provides structure, encouragement, and outstanding therapists who truly care, I can’t recommend Mind Over Matter enough. This place gave me the tools and confidence I needed to move forward, and I’ll always be grateful for my time here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is depression IOP different from regular outpatient therapy?
Weekly outpatient therapy provides one session per week. IOP provides 9-20 hours of structured clinical care per week — individual therapy, group therapy, psychiatric care, and skills training. For depression that is significantly disrupting daily life, the intensity of IOP creates change that weekly therapy cannot.
Does insurance cover IOP and PHP for depression in DFW?
If you have commercial insurance or Texas Medicaid, most or all of the cost is typically covered. Mind Above Matter accepts most major commercial plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare, as well as Texas Medicaid STAR, STAR+PLUS, and CHIP. We verify your benefits on your first call at no charge and tell you exactly what your out-of-pocket costs look like before you make any commitment. Most patients pay little to nothing out of pocket.
Can I work during depression IOP?
Yes. IOP is scheduled in morning and afternoon tracks to accommodate work. Many clients attend IOP while continuing full-time employment.
What if I have depression and anxiety together?
Co-occurring conditions are the norm, not the exception, in IOP and PHP settings. Mind Above Matter treats multiple co-occurring diagnoses simultaneously within a single coordinated treatment plan — depression and anxiety, trauma and substance use, bipolar disorder and OCD. Your therapist and psychiatric provider address your full clinical picture, not each diagnosis in isolation.
How long does depression IOP or PHP typically last?
IOP programs typically run 8 to 16 weeks depending on your diagnosis, symptom severity, and progress. PHP is usually 2 to 4 weeks before stepping down to IOP. Your clinical team sets your timeline based on your actual progress, not an arbitrary cutoff date. A gradual step-down from PHP to IOP to standard outpatient care is built into your treatment plan from the start.
Do you treat treatment-resistant depression?
Call us first. Our clinical team has worked with many adolescents who are initially resistant to treatment. We offer a low-pressure initial conversation focused on understanding what the teenager is experiencing rather than pressuring them to commit. We also offer telehealth options that some teenagers find less intimidating as a first step. Family engagement before the adolescent is fully ready still helps and is encouraged.
